1st February 2026, Joyce Bay, Port Moresby — The Joyce Bay community today officially launched its Community Police initiative, a community-led program focused on engaging youths from the community to address increasing crime and social issues.
The initiative plans to engage up to 180 community police members, drawn from youths across all seven zones of the Joyce Bay community. Currently, 100 youths have been mobilised, with further engagement of 180 is limited by the shortage of uniforms and other resources to help them perform their duties effectively.
The program is led by Ward 3B Member, Mr Joe Vali, in close collaboration with the local Police Station Commander, who will officiate the inaugural parade this afternoon. The initiative seeks to positively channel youth participation into community service, law enforcement support, and the promotion of safety, discipline, and social responsibility.
Mr Vali emphasised that the program is designed to empower young people to take ownership of community safety while working closely with formal policing authorities.
The Joyce Bay community is calling for support from the local Member of Parliament, Hon. Justice Tachenko, as well as from individuals, organisations, and stakeholders willing to assist, particularly through the provision of uniforms to enable full youth participation.
Those wishing to support the Joyce Bay Community Police initiative may contact Ward 3B Member Joe Vali on 7067 9865.

Ward 3B Member, Hon Joe Vali
